Using Keynote to Make Classroom Materials & TpT Products

Much has been said about the benefits of PowerPoint over Word when it comes to making Teachers Pay Teachers products, and I wholeheartedly agree. If you’re frustrated with rogue images, it’s time to switch to PowerPoint, or Keynote. Here’s a little primer on using Keynote to make multi-page documents, quizzes, and task cards for your classroom or Teachers Pay Teachers store.

Changing Keynote Dimensions for Multi-Page Documents, TpT Covers, TpT Previews, Pins for Pinterest, and TpT Banners.

Here’s how to change Keynote slide dimensions so that each page is the equivalent of a 8.5″X11″ page:

  1. Open Keynote and create a new presentation. Select Document at the top, right of your screen.

2. Click the drop down menu titled “slide size.” Select “Custom Slide Size.”

3. Change the dimensions to 612 X 792 (portrait), or 792 X 612 (landscape).

4. Copy and Paste to make as many blank pages as you need!

Use this same process to create slides in whatever dimensions you need. Here’s a table to help you out:

Using Keynote to Make a Template for Multiple-Choice Questions

  1. Select Table, then choose a basic table (one where every box is the same size).

2. Select Format (Top right), then Table.

3. Select Cell. Select the table with all bolded lines.

4. Under “Border Styles” select the bolded line. Now your table is easier to see, this will make it easier to adjust it around your text later.

5. Now adjust the columns. Decrease columns to 2. One column will be for your text. The other will house the ABCD for your multiple choice question.

6. Adjust rows to 6. One row will be for the question, four will be for the answer choices, and the bottom row will be for cc-standard. (If you don’t want to include a standard, make 5 rows).

7. Select the top row, right click, select “merge cells.” This row is for your question.

8. Now merge the bottom two rows (select bottom row, right click, select “merge cells”). This is where you can type your cc-standard.

9. Complete your template by typing any information you want to appear on every question. Copy and paste your template.

10. To complete a single question, type in your question, answer choices, and cc-standard.

11. Once your question is complete, select the entire border, then remove the border. Voila!

I love using Keynote because you can easily move around your graphics and text. I hope this was helpful! If you have other questions about using Keynote for classroom uses, leave a comment and I’ll try to help!

I love that you wrote about Keynote! It is all I have ever used. I love it and it is hard to find information about it! Your site looks great! I am also new to blogging!

I think so too! I thought Keynote info would be quick to follow powerpoint info, but it’s still rare. I love your site–it looks very professional and organized! I’ve been looking for other new bloggers to share ideas/questions with. If you’d ever like to chat or collaborate, email me at teacherinexile31@gmail.com!
