Welcome to Teacher In Exile

Hi, I’m Janille.

A few years ago I swapped my classroom for a nursery, but I’ve yet to kick the teaching “bug.” My children sleep from approximately 1:00-3:00 each afternoon, and I use that time to create materials for my imaginary classroom your classroom.

I’ve taught third and fifth grade with a focus on reading. I love seeing students develop a reading life through a vibrant, engaging reading workshop. While reading workshop is great, it can also be overwhelming. Most of my resources are meant to help teachers make dynamic teaching more manageable. Most of the materials you’ll find on this blog and in my TpT store will fall into these categories:

  1. Reading Workshop: Materials that infuse your reading curriculum with authentic reading, discussion, guided reading, and structured independent reading.
  2. Collaborative Test Prep: Test prep is my least favorite thing…which has ironically led me to create lots of test prep materials! The drill and kill methods are miserable for everyone, so I make test prep materials that are strategic, collaborative, and fun.
  3. Mom Stuff: When you’re a stay-at-home mom and TpT author, it’s hard to know which “job” is your day job (I’m typing this late at night, so…). Either way, one bleeds into the other. Keep an eye out for mom tips, reflections, and commiseration.

All said, I’m glad you’re here and I hope you come back soon. I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
