An Efficient Way to Digitize Multiple Choice Quizzes

Sometimes I try to imagine how many of us our out there, going through our files and digitizing everything. It’s a gargantuan task and I’m slowly learning how to make the process easier, faster and more foolproof.

Lately I’ve updated a series of multiple choice assessments that are part of my The Girl Who Drank the Moon novel study, and I developed a few tricks to make the whole process smoother. Here’s how I’m digitizing my multiple choice quizzes for distance learning:

Mise en Place

First up, get everything ready. So pull up the quiz you want to digitize and create a new Google Form.

  1. Pull up the quiz. Then minimize the screen.

2. Pull up Google Docs. Go to Google, log in, click the grid icon, find Docs.

3. Create a form. Click the three vertical lines in the upper left corner to access the menu.

4. Select “blank” form.

Create Your Quiz Template

5. Type a title and instructions.

6. Create quiz. Select the gear icon in the upper right corner. In the pop-up window, select “Quizzes.”

7. Select “Make this a quiz.”

8. Create ABCD format. Type “A” into the first answer choice. A ‘suggestion’ will pop up. Select “add all.” The letters “BDC” will automatically be filled in.

9. Select ‘Answer Key.”

10. Type point value you want assigned for each question.

11. Duplicate the question. Make as many copies of the question as you need for this quiz.

12. Copy and paste questions and answers into the Google Form. To make this easier, I shrink my windows so I can have the original quiz and Google Forms open at the same time.

13. Select ‘Answer Key’ again.

14. Now click the correct answer for this question. The answer key will be built into the quiz, allowing you to use the self-grading feature.

15. Continue for the rest of your questions!

A few months ago I digitized my Charlotte’s Web quizzes and it took foreeeeever. But this time I was much more efficient!

Do you have any tricks for quickly digitizing quizzes? I’d love to hear!
