Finding Clipart for Your TpT Store

If you’re a new TpT seller looking for advice in the Seller’s Forum, you’ll notice a recurring them: clipart. More specifically, you’ll hear people suggest that you invest in good clipart.

I concur, with some reservations. When it comes to Teachers Pay Teachers, the bottom line is this: quality content sells…but only if it’s packaged well. Teachers can’t view your whole product before purchasing, so a good cover and preview suggests something about the quality of the content.

Here are my three recommendations for finding clipart. One is free, one is paid, and one can be accessed through a free trial. This is not a sponsored post.

Purchase a Clipart Library (TpT)

TpT has a lot of great clipart, and some artists allow you to purchase a lifetime subscription to their collection. I love graphics by Paula Kim, and I purchased this lifetime, growing bundle from her store. I bought this on sale a few years ago, and have purchased hardly any additional clipart since then.

Use Free Images from Keynote

I’m lazy about updating my computer, but one day I updated it, opened Keynote, and found SO MANY NEW IMAGES! This is a small library of images, but it’s still really useful. You can change the colors of the graphics (use your color palette), or make them black and white.

I like these images because they’re simple and evocative. If you’re looking for something in particular, check here before purchasing clipart.

Sign Up for a Free Canva Trial

Again, this isn’t a sponsored post. I had a free trial of Canva for a few months and found it very helpful. Here’s what I liked:

  • Canva gives you access to lots of stock photos.
  • You can change the colors of the images (like the one above) to coordinate with your color palette.
  • Canva has templates that you can complete with your own text and graphics. This was really helpful for me, I learned more about designing product covers from messing around with this feature than I did anywhere else.

I’m not a current subscriber to Canva, but I found the free trial very useful. I would determine a simple brand before signing up for the free trial, that way you can hit the ground running.

To some degree, TpT is a very visual game. I hope these three resources help you find the graphics you need!
